The Nabatean track (9 days)

Program Details

Day 1 Arrival – Hotel Madaba
Pick up and assistance at the airport and transfer to your hotel in Madaba (or Amman) for the first night.
Day 2 Madaba – Mt. Nebo – Dead Sea - Dana
By bus we will drive to Mt. Nebo, where Moses left his people facing the Promised Land. We continue to Dead Sea, the lowest place on earth with more than 400 m below sea level. Floating effortlessly in the super salty water is a must! Through the area of Ghorr, the green lung of Jordan, we drive to Tafila and Dana. Late afternoon we will arrive in Dana to enjoy sunset with a spectacular view of the rift valley 1.200 m below. Dinner and night in a village-hotel or at the camping area of Dana (tents-bungalows, showers). 1-2 h walking.
Day 3 Dana – Wadi Feynan
Descent in one of the majestic canyons of the reservation of Dana. The guide will not miss to point out the different floors of the vegetation which make the feature of the reservation of Dana. Our aim is the desert of Wadi Feynan in the bottom of the big rift valley. Wadi Feynan was one of the first places in the world where copper was mined and smelted by humans. Innumerable shafts have been opened, collapsed, reopened, and abandoned using a wide range of methods and technologies. Camping. About 1.000 m of height difference and 6 h walking.
Day 4 Wadi Feynan – Wadi El Fed
In a world of canyons, we take back the height in the course. A waterfall invites to a refreshing pause. The first traces of Nabatean buildings are already visible (while we are relatively far away from Petra) in the form of irrigation channels and of water conveyance. Camping. About 800 m of height difference and 6 h walking.
Day 5 Wadi El Fed
Our track allows to be above the rift valley and to appreciate all immensity. Geological changes take place according to our walking and, already, we approach the characteristic sandstone of Petra. We see geological changes but also ancient occupation of these places by Nabateans and the Byzantines. Camping. About 6 h walking.
Day 6 Massoura – Little Petra – Wadi Musa
In the distance the mountains of Petra. The arrival in the site of the Siq El Barid (Little Petra) marks this day. Change of rhythm. We take the time to understand the architectural genius of the Nabateans, who sharpened a caravanserai in the rock. In this narrow canyon, the facades of the ancient inns and stores succeed one another for our pleasure. Overnight in the hotel in Wadi Musa. 6 h walking and about 300 m of height difference.
Day 7 Petra
Today we will enter Petra and the impressive Ed-Deir Monastery from behind, off the beaten track. Enjoy the walk on this amazing scenic trail where you will have fantastic views to Wadi Araba. Explore the site of Petra, this pearl of Jordan, registered in the worldwide heritage of the UNESCO. Camping. 6 walking and about 500 m of height difference.
Day 8 Petra - Madaba
After an early breakfast we will enter the site of Petra via the Siq, a long narrow gorge, which after 1 km opens for Petra's most famous monument, the Treasury (El-Khazneh). We follow the exploration of the site by tracks that we are practically the only ones to practice. In the afternoon we must say good-bye to this wonderful place and leave by bus to Madaba for the last night. Overnight in a hotel. 4 h walking and about 500 m of height difference.
